Thor Wind Farm Sees First Secondary Structures Installed by GWS
After the award and commencement of installation works for the Thor Offshore Wind Farm; we are pleased to share that the first secondary structures have now been successfully installed on-site.
Global Wind Service (GWS) joined the project in September 2024, taking on secondary steel installation and completion tasks during the installation phase. With 55 GWS technicians working offshore, ‘the team will be working hard through 2025 to get all structures installed on schedule’
This milestone marks GWS's debut in secondary steel installation, showcasing a significant expansion of expertise within our offshore portfolio.

Located 22 kilometers off the west coast of Jutland near Thorsminde, the Thor project has a total planned capacity of 1.1 gigawatts (GWS). Thor is a joint offshore wind project of RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Management Investment (49%). RWE is in charge of construction and operations throughout the lifecycle of the Thor offshore wind farm. it will feature 72 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each rated at 15 megawatts and enhanced with power boost technology, making Thor one of the most powerful offshore wind farms to date. Construction began in 2025, and the project is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2027.
